Understanding Kids Yoga

What Is Kids Yoga Teacher Training?

Kids yoga is a hands-on, imaginative way of bringing yoga into a child's world, not by simplifying it, but by reshaping it into something they naturally respond to. Instead of structured routines, a kids' yoga class runs on stories, movement games, animal poses, music, and creative play.

Children are not sitting still and following instructions. They are heroes on an adventure, animals in a jungle, and trees in a storm, and in the middle of all that, they are breathing, stretching, and learning to be present without ever being told to. That experience, however, does not happen by accident. It happens because the teacher behind it understands children, not just yoga.

Teaching children yoga is a responsibility that goes far beyond knowing postures. Every age group thinks differently, responds uniquely, and needs something different from you. A toddler needs songs and silliness. A ten-year-old needs challenge and creativity. A teenager needs trust and space. A structured Kids Yoga Teacher Training gives you the child development knowledge, age-appropriate teaching methods, and real classroom confidence to work across all of these stages with skill and intention.

Discipline In Our Yoga Community

Disciplines You Need To Follow In Our Yoga Community

At Vinyasa Yoga Academy, discipline is a practice we choose from within, and it begins the moment you arrive. Our Bali training community is rooted in the teachings of Karma Yoga: selfless service, self-inquiry, and conscious living. These principles shape how you share spaces, how you eat, sleep, and show up for your fellow students and teachers every single day. The Balinese spirit of 'Tri Hita Karana', i.e., harmony with people, nature, and the divine, quietly leads everything here, making Bali a uniquely powerful place to truly practice what you learn.

As a student in this programme, you are asked to maintain a sattvic way of living during your yoga training. This means keeping personal and shared spaces clean, refraining from meat, fish, eggs, alcohol, and tobacco, and embracing the early-morning schedule with commitment. These are not restrictions, but tools. They sharpen your focus, calm your nervous system, and create the internal conditions where core shift through learning becomes possible.

  • Every Thursday is observed as a Silence Day, following the traditional practice of "Moana Vratham"
  • Students are encouraged to sleep by 9:30 PM to support the physical demands and early rhythm of the daily schedule

Questions You May Have

Frequently Asked Questions — Kids Yoga Teacher Training in Bali

What is the 95-Hour Kids Yoga Teacher Training course?

It is a specialised yoga teacher training programme that prepares you to teach yoga safely, creatively, and effectively to children of different ages. The curriculum includes age-appropriate postures, breathing techniques, child psychology, mindfulness games, storytelling, classroom management, children's nutrition, and hands-on teaching practice.

Do I need any prior yoga certification before joining Kids Yoga Teacher Training Bali?

No prior yoga certification is required to join the training itself. However, if you plan to register as an RCYT with Yoga Alliance, you will also need an active RYT 200 (or higher) certification. You can complete both in any order, but both must be in place before applying for RCYT.

Is this training suitable for complete beginners to yoga?

Yes, the 95-hour childrens yoga teacher training is open to anyone aged 18 and above, regardless of their yoga background. If you are a complete beginner to yoga practice itself, the programme will introduce you to the foundational practices you need alongside the children's teaching methodology.

Is a Kids Yoga Teacher Training certificate recognised internationally?

Yes, provided the programme is registered with Yoga Alliance USA. Completing a Yoga Alliance-registered Kids Yoga Teacher Training allows you to apply for the RCYT credential, which is recognised by schools, studios, and wellness organisations across the world.

What age groups does the curriculum of Kids YTTC cover?

The training covers three developmental stages: toddlers and preschoolers (2–5 years), primary school children (6–12 years), and teenagers (13–18 years). For each group, you learn a different approach — how to speak to them, how to structure the class, which postures work, and how to keep them genuinely engaged at that stage of their growth.

What is the RCYT, and how do I get it?

RCYT stands for Registered Children's Yoga Teacher, which is a globally recognised Yoga Alliance speciality credential. In order to get it, you need three things: a completed 200-hour RYT certification from a Yoga Alliance-registered school, your 95-hour Kids Yoga certificate from Vinyasa Yoga Academy (a registered RCYS), and at least 30 documented hours of teaching children after your training. Once all three are in place, you can submit your application through the Yoga Alliance teacher dashboard.

What does the curriculum teach in the nutrition module for children?

In the nutrition module, we discuss children's dietary needs, including protein, fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy, and sugar. The module also addresses nutritional differences at different ages and the effect of food intake on a child's energy, concentration, and internal wellbeing.

Can I work with children with autism, ADHD or any disorder after this training?

Yes, the curriculum includes a core module on inclusive and special needs teaching and includes adapted approaches to teaching children with autism, ADHD, anxiety, and learning differences. This forms a basis for opportunities in special needs schools, therapy centres, and child development programmes.
